What's the Most Dangerous Scorpion? The world's most dangerous scorpion lives in North Africa and the Mid-East is a species known as Androctonus, Buthus, Hottentotta, or Leiurus. In South America its Tityus, in India its Mesobuthus, and in Mexico its Centruroides. In some regions, scorpion stings are a significant cause of death. The species Centruroides exilicauda (formerly called C. sculpturatus) is found over much of Arizona and the South West and its venom can produce severe pain and swelling at the site of the sting.
